2020 was the 500th anniversary of Raphael’s death. This lecture takes a look at his art and architecture.

The lecturer on this occasion is Shirley Smith

She is  a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts and a member of the Higher Education Academy.  She lectures part-time at the University of East Anglia and is a tutor for the Board of Continuing Education of Cambridge University at Madingley Hall where she runs weekend and study day courses.

She also lectures to The Art Fund, U3A and The Arts Society

She writes

‘I am particularly keen to set the art of the period in the context of the society for which it was produced. Consequently, patronage and propaganda are key issues in my lectures. My immense enthusiasm for and love of the period and its art ensure that my lectures, whilst well researched, are above all enjoyable.’

This lecture will be presented in the Matthews Hall at 10 45 a.m. on April 14th 2022
