Arts Volunteering

Arts Volunteering, which until about a year ago was known as Young Arts, gives grants to arts projects in the local community.

Working with schools, museums and youth groups, Arts Volunteering supports a wide range of projects. This work in creativity and arts education benefits the whole community.

Two years ago, we agreed a three year programme of projects that ExeDFAS planned to support. Unfortunately, Covid torpedoed most of these plans, but we have still managed to pay for Wynstream School  to have a visit from an artist to help them with their work in the National Curriculum. One of the organisations that we regularly help is Devon Young Carers (children who act as carers to their parents or other family members) by providing art classes at Exminster. As this was impossible during lockdown, we paid for a number of ‘art boxes’ of paints, brushes and materials so that these children could do some art in their homes. We have also worked with the Royal Albert Memorial Museum and subsidise Young Carers taking part in their Arts Award Summer Programme. Once again, this was impossible this year, so we supported their ‘Museum Escape!’ project, which will provide community engagement on the theme objects ‘escaping’ from the Museum this summer holiday. We were also planning a painting competition for schools in the Exeter, Topsham and Exmouth area, which will be organised by RAMM and for which we will provide the prizes. It is hoped that this will still go ahead once the restrictions have been lifted.
