Each year the Visits Secretary tries to put together an interesting programme of visits to places of interest and significance in the South West of England that can be reached in a day. Sometimes we share cars or public transport, but usually we travel by coach to places that are a bit further away.
When we can, we arrange for guides to make each visit as informative as possible. We try not to schedule departures too early in the morning, and we aim to return home by the late afternoon.
Coaches pick up in both Budleigh Salterton (Public Hall) and Topsham (Holman Way car park) and the departure time will vary with each visit.
We always ensure that there is adequate opportunity for refreshment, coffee and lunch etc., and we aim to make each visit as convivial an occasion as possible. It is an excellent way of getting to know your fellow ExeDFAS members.
There remains some uncertainty about the programme of visits for this year because of the Coronavirus pandemic, but we plan to visit Mapperton House and Gardens on May 6th, and Hartland Abbey and Rosemoor RHS Garden on June 15th. We also plan to book a private tour of Powderham Castle led by the Earl of Devon some time in April, date to be confirmed.
Our visits secretary, newly elected this year, is Dianne Westoby-Brooks
